Message from the Chairman

The Maryland Republican Party held their semi-annual convention in Solomons Island April 29th.

The party elected 10 delegates to the Republican National Convention that will be held in Tampa later this year. Elected Delegates were Ellen Sauerbrey, Tony O’Donnell, E.J. Pipkin, David Craig, Diana Waterman, Kelly Schultz, Larry Helminiak, Kathy Szelegia, Mike Smeigel and Ruth Umbel.

There were also elections for National Committee Man and National Committee Woman. This is important because each state has three representatives at the Republican National Committee - the RNC you hear so much about during election years. They are the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman and the State Chairman.

Louis Pope was easily re-elected as National Committeeman for a third time. The contest for National Committeewoman was hotly contested because Joyce Terhes, who served in that position for years, decided not to run for re-election. Each county has a number of votes consistent with the number of registered Republicans in that county. There were two women running. Audrey Scott, who served as state chairman in 2010, and Nicolee Ambrose. Both are popular and well known in the party.

Here are the votes, county by county:

County Scott	Ambrose	Abstain
Allegheny	1	1
Anne Arundel	3	9	1
Baltimore City	2	9	1
Baltimore Co.	7	21
Calvert 5	4
Caroline	9	0
Carroll 2	7
Cecil 7	2
Charles 7	2
Dorchester	1	5
Frederick	0	9
Garrett 4	3
Harford 6	6
Howard 7	2
Kent 5	2
Montgomery	15	32
Prince George	6	6
Queen Anne	7	0
Somerset	5	2
St. Mary’s	9	0
Talbot 9	0
Washington	0	9
Wicomico	3	6
Worcester	3	6

TOTAL 123	143

Look at these numbers and think of it as the upcoming National election in miniature. Look how close the election was. There are 24 counties voting and only 20 votes separating the two candidates. That’s less than ONE VOTE per county. Just ONE VOTE going the other way from each county would have given us a different winner.

This year’s Presidential election looks like it may be this close. One day you see Obama ahead in the polls and the next day you see Romney ahead. The above chart shows you that ONE VOTE PER PRECINCT could make the difference.

Be sure to vote in November and be sure to get everyone you know to vote. The future of our country depends on it.
